USS Rafael Peralta (DDG-115), the newest Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, was commissioned at Naval Air Station North Island on July 29, 2017. The ship was commissioned after Mr. Rafael Peralta, a U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Originally from Mexico,
PeraltaPeralta was killed in 2004 during the second Battle of Fallujah in Iraq. He posthumously received the Navy Cross for his heroic actions that saved the lives of fellow Marines.
