Environmentally-Friendly Cryogenics, Maintenance Free

Advancements in Cryogenic Coolers

Gain insight on the environmental role of cryogenic coolers in applications ranging from medical imaging to space exploration.

RIX’s unique thermoacoustic-Stirling (pulse tube) cryocoolers combine mechanical simplicity, high performance, and efficiency while using an environmentally friendly refrigerant. Driven by two robust linear reciprocating motors with clearance seal pistons, each unit provides wear free operation with no required lubrication. The dual opposed motor/piston design within the pressure wave generator (PWG) is naturally balanced, reducing vibration and noise. RIX cryocoolers operate at temperatures ranging from 40–200K with rated capacities of a few watts to 800 W at 77K. Recognized for value and performance industry-wide, our cryogenic coolers advance reliability, safety, and economy for OEM, military, and R&D organizations.

RIX Industries Collaborates with NSF NRAO on Advanced Cryocooling for Next-Generation Radio Telescope

A group of satellite dishes are lined up in a field

RIX Industries has partnered with the U.S. National Science Foundation’s National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NSF NRAO) in support of the Next Generation Very Large Array (ngVLA) — a visionary radio astronomy project designed to dramatically extend our view of the universe. At the core of this partnership is the development of advanced cryogenic cooling systems based on RIX’s proprietary Thermoacoustic Stirling-cycle Cryocooler (TASC) technology. With the potential to reduce operational costs, improve reliability, and support high-sensitivity observations across a network of over 200 antennas, this collaboration exemplifies how industry innovation can help power scientific discovery on a cosmic scale.
