STR-700 HAZMAT MINIMIZATION

Clause:

The supplier shall comply with Supplementary Technical Requirement STR-700 “Hazardous Material Minimization in Mechanical and Electromechanical Components and Maintenance Equipment” that is provided in Appendix B of this purchase order. This STR specifies hazardous material minimization, identification, and documentation requirements for the items to be delivered on this purchase order. If necessary, the supplier shall use the Vendor Information Request (VIR) process described in Appendix A of this purchase order (Form 3409) to obtain approval for the Hazardous Material Review Plan (described in Section 4.3 OF STR-700) and the Design Justification (described in Section 3.1.2 OF STR-700). Correspondence shall be sent to the Newport News buyer at: Newport News Shipbuilding Attn: (Buyer), Sourcing Dept 4101 Washington Ave, Newport News, VA 23607 Clarification to Table 1 of STR-700: If brass or bronze that contains greater than 1% lead is to be used in the mechanical portion of the item, then the supplier shall request from Newport News Shipbuilding a notification of whether or not the item is expected to become radioactively contaminated or activated. This information must be obtained by the supplier prior to developing the design justification described in Section 3.1.2 of STR-700.
