RIX Industries manufactures highly reliable, Thermoacoustic Stirling (pulse tube) Cryocoolers with Pressure Wave Generators (PWG) for a variety of OEM, military, and R&D applications. With a reputation that is second to none, we are driven to design and produce cryogenic coolers that provide reliable, safe, and economical benefits to our customers.

Each cryogenic unit is driven by two robust linear reciprocating motors with clearance seal pistons, providing wear free operation with no required lubrication. The dual opposed motor/piston design within the pressure wave generator (PWG) is naturally balanced, reducing vibration and noise. The Linear Reciprocating Motors and Alternators are the driving force behind all our cryogenic products. RIX cryocoolers operate at temperatures ranging from 40–200K with rated capacities of a few Watts to 800 Watts at 77K.

  2. Pressure Wave Generators
    RIX Industries' Pressure Wave Generators (PWG) are valveless electroacoustic devices - like extremely powerful audio speakers - that produce high-intensity acoustic power. They are designed to alternately compress and expand inert gases to drive acoustic loads such as thermoacoustic Stirling (‘pulse tube’) and Stirling cryocoolers. PWG’s can be used to drive other loads that require oscillating pressure and flow, such as thermoacoustic refrigerators, or experiments to characterize conceptual Stirling cryocoolers or engine components. Pressure amplitudes up to 25% of mean pressure to 30 bar and volume amplitudes of 300 liters/second are possible with matched, pressurized loads. Learn More
  3. Linear Motors & Alternators
    RIX’s linear motors & alternators are the driving force behind all our products. These are linear reciprocating devices that combine the unique flexing axial suspension with plunger-mounted, high-energy magnets and robust coil-over-iron stators. Each model is designed to operate for well over 10 maintenance-free years with a calculated mean time between failures per MIL-STD 217F of 129,760 hours. This is supported by 100’s of installations worldwide. These motors/alternators offer efficiencies in the 80%-90% range, much higher than similar linear reciprocating devices. Learn More
