Hydrogen Compressors

RIX Industries offers a variety of oil-free hydrogen compressors to fit both commercial and industrial applications. Ranging from small hydrogen boosters (2TX) to large (2DS) hydrogen compressor systems, RIX will assist with a custom compressor making sure needs are met for any of our low-pressure or high-pressure oil-free hydrogen boosters.  Hydrogen systems are available for a variety of applications, including hydrogen recycle, fuel cells, and hydrogen filling stations.

Hydrogen Boost for Fuel Cell Vehicles

 

           Hydrogen is stored at filling stations at pressures from 350 barg (5,000 psig ) up to 690 barg (10,000 psig).  RIX has supplied compressors to take hydrogen from a liquid source and provide high pressure for oil-free storage to prevent contaminants from entering the vehicle system and fouling the fuel cell.

Syngas Compression for Hydrogen Production

 

            Oil-free compression of syngas for hydrogen production requires the use of special materials to deal with the corrosive aspects of syngas. These are usually lower-pressure compressors that employ one or two stages of boost to go into membranes or other separation technology.

Hydrogen Compression for Refinery or Oil Reclamation

 

            Hydrogen is often run through processes at high pressures (60 to 140 barg; 800 to 2000 psig), returning with a small pressure drop. The compressor is usually a single-stage unit that has large bearings, con rods, and crankshaft to handle the high rod loads that come from the high pressures. The valves are sized specially to handle the high flows in the relatively small cylinder heads. RIX provides the hydrogen boost oil-free to prevent oil carryover into the process hydrogen.

Hydrogen Pilot Plants

 

            Refinery research facilities often build pilot plants to test processes and need high-pressure hydrogen at smaller volumes. The smaller RIX frames are excellent choices for these applications, offering oil-free compression and the flexibility to provide high pressures with various inlet hydrogen pressure.
