RIX was established in 1878 and is privately held, with headquarters in Benicia, California, USA. Our oil-free compressors are manufactured in either Benicia, California or in Sparks, Nevada, USA. RIX has representatives and service capabilities worldwide (see links in Service page).

General Manufacturing Guidelines

ISO 9001 Certified

RIX compressors are normally manufactured in accordance with the following:

Mechanical: ASME

Welding (piping): Welders are qualified to Mil-Std 278F & ASME, Section IX Welding meets ANSI B31.3. NDT requirements optional.

Pressure Vessels: ASME, Sec. VIII, Div. 1, stamped as required per code.

Heat Exchangers: ASME. Stamping optional. TEMA optional.

Electrical: NEC, NEMA, UL.

Quality Control: RIX Quality Assurance Manual (March 1999).

Hydro Testing: Gas side: 1.5 times MAWP (castings and weldments only). Water side: 1.5 times MAWP (castings only) 125 psig minimum.

Cleaning: Oil-free: air sample verification available. Nitrox: per RIX A5858-20 Oxygen: per RIX A5858-11.

Testing: RIX forms A4514H, A5337F.

Painting: RIX Paint Procedure M008(A).

API 618 Design variances available.

NAVSEA 0900-LP-001-7000: Brazing

 

Other general design parameters are as follows:

Welded Piping: 304 L Stainless, Schedule 40 minimum Steel, ASTM A53 (non-corrosive applications)

Tubing: 304 Stainless (316 optional)

Fittings - threaded: 316 Stainless, Brass or Steel

Fittings - flareless tube: Parker or SSP Ferulok type (Swagelok optional)

Flexible piping: Parker hydraulic hose

Instrument tubing: 1/4" Stainless or flex hose

Water Plumbing: Common piping materials include: brass or galvanized threaded pipe and fittings, welded steel, brazed copper, and stainless tubing with Ferulok flareless fittings. Hose is clamped rubber or Parker hydraulic with clamps or crimped swivel fittings.
